Online Traffic That Pays

Your website or blog can only begin to make money if it gets the attention of the online public. You need to direct traffic towards your site so that advertisers will want to place ads in your site and from there you get to earn a few bucks.

So how do you get that much needed traffic?

1. Start with the basic, content, that is - what does your site contain and what is your blog all about? Even when your site is a buy-and-sell site, you still need to fill it with information materials that buyers and sellers need to know about the products or services being traded. Ensure that the content is informative and substantial.

2. Link to groups or participate in forums and make sure that your site is made known to these groups or forums. Don't hard-sell however. Make sure your participation is relevant and your contribution to the group discussions will make the other participants yearning to get to know you more, albeit online through your website.

3. Collaborate with other information sharers, whether authorities on the subject or newbies with the right kind of enthusiasm and zest for sharing information. You may not be famous yourself, but nothing stops you from generating traffic even from the more prestigious authorities in your field or industry if you can get them to visit your site. You may even cite one or two works of this authority to feature in your site. And the enthusiastic newbies on the other end of the spectrum will want to tell all their friends about the interesting "gems" in your site.

4. If you are up to it and you believe your writing skills are adequate, you can have an online newsletter. Newsletters are great ways of posting the latest ideas, trends, events that are worthy of attention. And online newsletters need not be lengthy multi-pagers. A brief article posted regularly on the online newsletter ensures readership, and traffic.

Now that you have that traffic coming in and out of your site, you can ride on all the attention and make money here and there. Use the traffic to create a database. Obtain a few really basic information about your site visitor and you at least have prospect information to begin with. Without you knowing it, you've got yourself a free mailing list that not only you can use, but what other advertisers or marketers may be willing to pay for.

Capitalize on the traffic to maximize advertising on your site. While other marketers will see the advantage of placing ads on your site because of the traffic your site generates, and you get to earn thereon, make sure that you yourself makes use of that traffic advantage. Advertise and sell yourself and your own product or service not only online, but follow through this with offline, personal contact whenever practicable.

Monitor that traffic, too. By doing so, you are able to establish the kind of audience that you reach, the weaknesses of your site (as when you establish why a particular kind of audience no longer returns to your site), and the strengths. You correct the weaknesses, and build on the strengths.
