All kinds of celebrities, news organizations and politicians are signing up as "tweeters". And the users keep growing. Many are starting to use this as a marketing tool to increase their company exposure. So how can you get on the bandwagon and get targeted twitter traffic to your website?
The place to start is to create original content. That will get your audiences attention right off the bat. In 2009 a Harvard study found 90% of Twitter content is created by 10% of the users. So this original content could be videos, photos, blogs or articles. Anything you've created up to 140 characters can be uploaded. Over that, just tweet a link.
Putting your Twitter feed on your Facebook profile is another great idea you can easily perform. Facebook has status updates, and you can integrate Twitter there. So now your Facebook friends have updates instantly while you are "tweeting" from your phone.
A third idea is to use your Blogger or WordPress blog sites as feed outlets for your "tweets". "Twit Connect" is a plugin you can use for WordPress. And to hook Twitter up to Blogger...Twitter has an official "badge" that you can add to your Blogger page.
Tip number 4 involves your niche. Building a Twitter following with niched followers can give you people who are more likely to be interested in what you're tweeting about. For instance, antique cars.... Or special recipes. Each of these niches has a loyal following. Your Tweets can help feed their hunger for more information.
For tip #5, try organizing a contest through your Twitter profile. I've seen contests about soap making, ong writing, travel and even charity contests. The sky really is the limit here. You could take this idea even further by putting on an auction, or a raffle. Its up to you where you can take this.
Tip #6 uses something you might already be doing. Do you have tech/customer support people in place already? As for customer service staff involvement, Twitter is not only a more interesting platform than phone or email, but gives staff a better picture of their impact on others. Not only are companies using Twitter for customer service, but some companies are using Twitter to signal to their organization what customers and competitors are saying about them.
