How to Use "Tell a Friend" Scripts to Increase Your Website Traffic

Tell a friend scripts are a great way to increase your website's traffic. You can attract targeted prospects to your offer using one of these scripts. The ones that you can get for free will do the trick, but if you want even more results there are some paid versions that will deliver amazing results.

While these little scripts are quite simple and easy to use, there are some things you should know in order to get the most effectiveness out of them. By following these simple guidelines you will start to get more people to use your tell a friend form, and get more traffic from the people that do use it.

#1 - Be intentional with your tell a friend page

The first thing you must do to get more results out of your tell a friend script is to be intentional with it. Put it in front of your visitors eyes on purpose. Don't put a small link on your main page that says, "Click Here to tell your friends." Hardly anyone will see it.

Instead, insert your tell a friend script right into your marketing process. If you are capturing emails on your homepage, then after a prospect signs up to be on your list, the next page you could take them to would be your tell a friend page. This will give them the option to immediately share the new, exciting information they just found with some of their friends.

#2 - Offer your prospects an incentive to spread the word

This is another sure-fire way to get more of your prospects to use your tell a friend form and produce more traffic with it. When your visitors hit your tell a friend page they should see an offer for something of value that they can get for free just by telling a couple friends about your website. You can make the offer anything you want, but the more you target it to your niche and add value, the more people will want it. And they will tell their friends to get it.

#3 - You must offer good free content

Doing this will not get you an immediate jump in results compared to the top two, but this is essential if you want the word to spread about your site. A couple things to keep in mind:

If you start asking for money right away, not as many people will tell their friends about you because they will feel like they are trying to sell their friends something.
The better your free content is, the more comfortable your visitors will be with telling their friends about your site.

By following these few simple guidelines you will really start to see a difference in your tell a friend marketing. If you aren't using a tell a friend script to promote your website yet, you should start there! They run behind the scenes and after they are set up will bring you free, targeted traffic for the life of your site.
