The facts are this - just because everyone is trying something does not make it right!

Free traffic will usually cost you a lot of time and will have a huge delay in results. What usually happens is you will have to work for 6 months to a year before you see good website traffic come your way from your efforts.

Now - for that year you have been investing time and have not been making any money. So the cost has been a year of your life and a lot of lost income that paid traffic would have gotten you.

Secret #3:

It is easier to make money from paid traffic! This is a fact because there is way less competition for paid traffic then there is free traffic. So focus on investing what you can in paid traffic and let it multiply.
